Product Description
Capture crisp, clear night scenes with the 28mm wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens and POWER O.I.S. The foldable optics in this 28mm wide-angle lens with 4.6x optical zoom enables the FP8's flat, slim design. Plus, the superb image rendering of the Leica DC lens teams up with the double* corrective power of the new POWER O.I.S. to clearly capture subjects even in dimly lit areas where hand-shake often occurs. *Panasonic comparison High-speed performance lets you shoot anytime you want Enjoy high-speed 0.95-second start-ups, AF speeds of approximately 0.3 second, and up to five consecutive shots at 2.3 frames per second with full resolution. You can also take up to 380 photos with a single battery charge (CIPA). This comfortable level of performance lets you capture even the most fleeting shutter chances. Switch to iA mode with a single press of the button Simply switch to iA mode, and leave everything up to the camera. It automatically selects the best of six scene modes to match your subject, and corrects any blurring, focus or brightness problems, so you get beautiful photos every time. Illuminated buttons look cool and brightens up operation The back of the camera has cool-looking illuminated buttons that help you to avoid operating mistakes even when shooting in dimly lit places.

5 out of 5 stars Super camera   August 29, 2010
adrian wilson (Macon, Ga. United States)
This camera goes way beyond what I had come to expect for cameras of this nature.I had bought a Sony tx7 & it was complete garbage...pics were a hot mess & the supposedly 1080i video was horrible lol.the FP8 video is incredibly clear which is what I mainly got it for.the pictures are beautiful & it's just hard to believe all of that comes from a tiny camera that fits in your pocket!!! Also picked up the Panasonic ZS7....incredible sums that camera up.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Point and shoot for the Price   August 20, 2010

For $159.00, this camera is probably the best point and shoot camera in the market to date. Some of the outdoor shots coming out of this camera is similar to my full frame Nikon D700 DSLR camera. Indoor shots are great too; however, I would not recommend this camera for fast indoor sports photography without a flash. The black color is the cheapest color. Other colors go above the $200.00 range. I personally like the black color; so, stick with the black color, pay the lower cost you will not regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Love it so far...   August 12, 2010

I bought this camera to replace my Sony Cybershot (which I dearly loved). My Cybershot is still in good working order, but my husband wanted a small camera to take fishing and didn't want to worry about caring for a new one.

I was looking for something small enough to take anywhere in my purse or pocket. I read TONS of reviews on cameras and ended up choosing this one because it was Consumer Reports top pick. I have just returned from vacation where I took hundreds of pictures and I am very happy with the photo quality. I think my Cybershot took better pictures with the flash off, but other than that I cannot complain. There are still alot of features that I have not tried yet...I'm pretty much a point-and-shoot kind of girl!

I would highly recommend this camera.

5 out of 5 stars Great Camera! Excellent Pictures and Ease of Use!   July 28, 2010

I purchased this camera because the portable Olympus FE-230 I previously used for my past 2 summer trips was inconsistent in picture quality. I travel as a leader for a student group and have so much other stuff to carry that I want a camera that slips in to my pocket and obviously takes great photos. My mother has a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 that takes exceptional pictures, so I looked in to getting one myself. The DMC-FP8 was top rated in Consumer Reports and turned out to be all that I wanted and more. The size is what I was looking for, the picture quality is excellent, and there are so many extra features that I wasn't even planning on but I got with this camera! I have just returned from 3 weeks in Europe and took about 1500 pictures. The clarity, color, and overall quality is fantastic. I was able to get larger shots in the frame when others I was with could not. I was also able to zoom in from quite a distance and capture a great photo. Battery life was very good, and ease of menu and options was simple. I will say that the one down side to the camera as noted by other reviewers is the ability to catch your finger in the photo due to the lens being located on the left side of the camera. However, I quickly adjusted my "habit" of grasping the camera over the front when taking two handed pictures, and at other times could easily take a photo just using my right hand only. Overall: I'm very pleased with the camera and thankful that I chose to get it prior to my trip! I would highly recommend the Lumix DMC-FP8!

5 out of 5 stars Style and function had a child. They named it Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8.   July 11, 2010

I didn't read the manual yet, and I don't necessarily need to. Its really easy to figure out and operate this camera. I haven't used many features yet, instead I usually keep it on ia (intelligent auto). Perfect for candid shots other cameras would have trouble capturing. This camera takes quick, crisp shots, and zooms without extendending its lenses. Some shots can be a little blurry despite the image stabilization, but that's not a frequent problem. I love it so far.
