Great case for limited camera accessories July 25, 2010 cjm relatively comfortable, the straps are a little bit uncomfortable. fits only a small flash or an extra small lens plus the camera. the memory card pockets are very small and don't fit the card with the card case. Other than that it is a very good beginner case.
Fantastic travel backpack for packing light July 13, 2010 E. Martin (Miami, FL USA) I recently purchased this pack to carry with me through Spain, and I am very happy with my purchase. Let's start with the good:
+ Small, narrow, sits comfortably in the middle of the back with the bulk of the weight at the bottom. This makes packing this bag around all day long very easy and comfy. I walked 5+ miles at a time through San Sebastian with it on my back the whole time and never felt like it was uncomfortable.
+ 2 compartment design is wonderful for travel. No longer do you have to open your entire bag to retrieve things like a wallet, keys, phone, etc. This was a big issue for me as I didn't want my camera being flashed every time I pulled my wallet out to purchase something. The bottom compartment easily holds my 7D with 17-40 (hood reversed) attached and a 50mm f/1.2 in the spare compartment (hood reversed). The top compartment is big enough to carry an unlined rain jacket, small wallet, keys, phone, memory cards, and nearly any other personal items you want! The top compartment is very spacious.
+ Water bottle holder. The water bottle holder is large enough and roomy enough to hold a full size water bottle or other items like a map.
+ Quick access front compartment. I used this to carry my passport through customs and security while in Spain, and it was great. I could hold my passport there and be able to whip it out quickly without rummaging through the entire bag.
+ Security pocket under flap. This is where I stored my passport and wallet while out on the street. It's secured under the flap and has double zipper enclosure.
+ Top pocket organizers. The upper compartment (main compartment) has great mesh organizers inside which makes keeping pens, paper, etc. handy and easy to find very easy. This is a very nice touch.
Now for the cons (don't worry, there aren't many).
- No netbook sleeve in the back. This would be a great addition to this bag.
- No rainfly. Also would be a great addition to the bag.
- No tripod/monopod holder. This is a little surprising to me since most Lowepro bags now have one built in. It would be very convenient.
- Quick access pocket. Although accessing the camera is quick, my 7D got "snagged" on the interior lining on the way out several times.
- Bit short in the main compartment. The camera compartment is too short for 7D with grip or 1D body, unfortunately. Another 1/2 inch of height, and you could fit any pro body inside.
Overall, this is a wonderful travel backpack if you are packing light. I am certain I will find tons of uses for this little bag in the future, and it will remain my go-to bag for travel!
How to carry a telephoto lens in Fastpack 100 May 30, 2010 J. Fan 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had this bag for 1.5 years, and 1.0 years of shopping led me to 1 regretful purchase (Lowepro AW 160 -- too heavy on the shoulder) and countless hours of shopping for a lightweight & affordable bag. Plenty of other reviews that praises this bag, so nothing to see here... move along.
A little known secret is that you can actually fit a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras(+ hood reversed) horizontally in the top section. I started a bag search after buying this telephoto lens, and bag makers advertise "you need this larger bag to carry your tele." Uh, no. Without Canon's pouch, my tele >> slips into << the top section with enough room lengthwise and width. If I put the lens in the pouch and try again, it will >> fit << into the top section, meaning that I have to gently nudge the nylon cord with my fingers. Either way, there is still room on top (get a ruler). Obviously, you'll be carrying your camera on your shoulder/neck/handgrip when using the tele. This solution is not at all "fast-pack", but it may satisfy folks who are looking for another way to use this bag.
Bag contents:
Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black)
LCD screen protected with Fellowes Universal Screen Protectors 9000201
Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens for Canon DSLR Cameras
Canon Lens Hood EW 83J for Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM
Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras
Hakuba Camera Grip
And various filters
Great choice for traveling! May 18, 2010 M. Pereira (Porto, Portugal) Really easy to store and remove the camera and lots of additional space for such a small back pack.
I can fit my Canon 450D + Sigma 10-20 with hood plus an additional lens. It's very comfortable, light and well built.
I really recommend this for carrying this type of camera / lens set.
Great Bag May 9, 2010 Robert We recently purchased a T1i and were looking for a bag large enough to carry an extra lens, charger and a few filters and this bag is nearly perfect. We recently took our kids to Disney and found the top compartment was large enough to hold park passes, sun block and a few other small items we required. It is very light - we hardly noticed as we carried it through the parks.
It was easy to open while going through security and is a great bag!
